Year End Giving
One of the ways that God teaches churches to act on faith is that much of the revenue needed to complete a congregational budget comes in during December, especially the last two weeks of December. Our congregation has been extremely faithful this year, but we also still rely upon those year end contributions to help us meet our obligations.
As we project our expenses through the end of the year, we estimate total expenses to be around $111,275. This represents an increase in spending of only $100 from 2009. We have tried to be extremely good stewards of our resources in this tough economy. Yet we still lack $12,710 to complete our budget for 2010 by December 31.
There are several ways you can give. Of course, you can always drop a check in the offering plate or in the mail. If it is delivered by hand or postmarked by December 31, you can include that as a contribution on your tax return for 2010. Those statements will be mailed to you in the first part of next year.
Some people choose to give the church appreciated securities as a means of avoiding personal capital gains tax and making a contribution to their church at the same time. If you wish to make a contribution of stock, please contact Leanne Slaymaker, our treasurer, at 319-741-6250.
However you choose to give this year, please know how grateful we are that you are participating in the work that God is doing through First United Methodist Church, Marengo.
Many blessings to you this Christmas season!!!
